Okay guys well i have moved out of my apartment and moved in with some family for the time being and we remodeled the garage into a pretty sweet bedroom for me, and im having some wifi issues in there. I brough my router over and replaced their junky one with mine. My pc has no issues with the router as is, but my tablet drops connection while playing games in my room which is like idk kinda far away and with 2-3 walls in between. I have the netgear n600 WNDR3400v2. I was considering buying the netgear WN2500RP range extender or just buying an all new router that would have excellent range like maybe the netgear nighthawk for 200 bucks. thing is im not sure if i can buy a router that will output the range i need without an extender. and i can get the extender for 80 bucks vs new router for 200. but also my router is few years old and im sure could use some updating as i do heavy streaming and gaming daily.

You will likely not get much better range from just a different router. Mostly the nighthawk expense is 802.11ac and that will actually have less range when you consider walls since 5g does not penetrate as well. If you are already using 5g it might help hard to say. The 2.4 should go farther even though it is subject to interference more.

Range extenders although they may increase the distance they decrease the speed by at least half and many times even more if the signal is poor were you place the repeater.

Streaming and gaming are the worst thing to do on wireless and a repeater will make both those even worse in most cases.

If you can run a cable part way and put in a AP you would have better results. Something like a powerline network tends to work better than a repeater especially for games and high load traffic like video streaming

bill001g i do my gaming on my notebook, but i play a few games on the tablet but the connection drops, i dont need good speeds, maybe your not understaning, like i said my notebooks connection is very strong and i get the same speeds and ping as if i were hard wired in, never had a single connection issue as i have a very fast internet speed. my problem is in the tablet just like 99% of tablets on the market they put junky wifi cards in them just like most phones, so the connection the tablet is barley picking up a connection, it drops it in and out on games and my browsing speed is subpar. I have read the range of the nighthawk is much more, and i am already using 2.4ghz as ive never had good luck with range on 5ghz, somethign they need to improve on. So all im trying to do is get the range extended out to my room so my tablet can get wifi connection, doesnt need to be perfect just to where i dont drop.
