Hey there, I am looking for advice on which motherboard to run with my build. I'm confused as there are now many options due to the new Z97 series released and I'm unsure what Board would be suitable for my build. I dont mind paying a little extra for a bit of future proofing but I'm not too keen on spending much on a mobo.

Also, I am planning on buying the OEM version of windows 7 but I'm having trouble understanding the differences apart from the fact that you can only install it to 1 mobo and then its linked for good. what are the other differences I should consider.

P.S This is my first build and installation of windows 7 so any tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Also feel free to suggest different parts (please justify your recommendations)

Any though of XFire? if not can drop the PSU to a good 550 or 600, would suggest 1866/9 as a minimum, on the OEM version, you are buying it, it's yours and you can use it how you see fit as you are the builder, if you you change the mobo in the future you'll be fine. As to a mobo, to a degree it depends on the budget, I'd go as entry level the Asus Z97-A, or if it fits in the budget I'd go the Z97 Hero, just picked mine up, in the Z87 series (mine in sig) the Hero was the best mobo and I see it as being the best of the Z97s also.....

I'm not keen on Crossfire, but I was told I would need a solid psu for headroom with Overclocking (which I plan to do mildy). Most of the z97 series mobos are quite exspensive in aus. One of the Cheapest options is the Asrock Z97 Pro4. How limiting would that be?

Also, one more question, do you think the evo 212 and my ram will have problems with clearance? Cheers

The Pro 4 will be fine, help keep heat down and should OC well, as far as the Hyper 212 EVO - you will be perfectly fine w/ any DRAM - the fans of the Hyper 212 EVO are height adjustable and no ill affect to the cooling, have one on my 3570K sitting over 32GB or Tridents and runs nice and cool at 4.7 24/7, same on my 2500K with full load of RJ X sticks at 4.8
