Ok, so i have a 970a, and the problems are more than I can count, for one, overclocking the ram at all is a no-no, it instacrashes and resets the cmos. does anyone have any idea why my memory refuses to be overclocked?

another question, on a slightly different note, my NB runs very hot, so hot i wonder if something isn't wrong (~39c idle, 65c under load) i have the NB undervolted to compensate for the massive heat buildup. on top of this I seem to hit a soft OC ceiling of 4.8Ghz or so (I say soft because I can never get the same number twice, I've run it at 5.3Ghz for a month, then couldn't exceed 4.5 or 4.8 Ghz for months at a time.), is this normal for the board/CPU?
build is as follows:
AMD FX-6100 @ 3.3Ghz,
2x Sapphire Radeon HD 7770
Corsair XMS3 1333Mhz,

not sure it matters, but I'm running an Arctic freezer A30 High Performance cooler.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure why you are wanting to overclock RAM so bad. Overclocking RAM typically gives very little performance gains.

If you are trying to increase frequency you may need to loosen timings. If you are trying to hit DDR1600, you might try loosen CAS to 10 or 11. I wouldn't expect much from an XMS 1333 set though, you may not be able to do it at all.

so it really isnt that goof for light overclocking of memory and the such? do you have any ideas as to why the memory will not OC?

I used to have the same mobo and it wasn't great for much more than light overclocking

I'd be more concerned at the overclocks you have been running

You ran 5.3ghz for a month? That's a big overclock on air cooling.

what kind of voltage were you feeding the CPU for that?

did it pass prime95/IBT etc?

it went thru prime95 for 8 hours with no errors, figured it was fine. it wasnt that bad, the A30 artic freezer did a sufficient job of hold the temps in check, never got above 65C. (that was after the 8 hour run, and in real life performance never broke 55) was feeding it about 1.475, never exceeded 1.5v
