Desktop PC gets higher download speeds with an Ethernet cable, but slower with a faster wireless card.

Hello everyone, I have a quick question for you.

For my desktop PC I have an ASUS PCE-N53 Wireless Card installed (link: asus.com/Networking/PCEN53/).
My download speed according to speedtest.net is around 8 Mbps. When I am using my laptop it gets around 50 Mbps, and when I had my desktop hooked up with the Ethernet cable it was also around 60 Mbps. I had to move my desktop to another room, and I don't have any longer Ethernet cables around.

Is there any way I can boost my download speeds (bring it back to 60 Mbps)?

Sound like you have a lot of interference, you can try changing the channel on which the wireless works on that sometimes helps. Unless you have a clear path to the wireless router form the PC you will always get some signal loss. Electrical cables in the walls also reduce signal quality. If the speed is that bad you can get plug in the wall adapters for your network, but in some cases that can be worse for you.

ethernet will be always faster no matter what you do.an easy way to improve your signal though is to use a repeater or even replace one of the asus antenna with something like this . it works for me!

I would also like to mention that: my laptop gets no drop in signal in the same room as my desktop. I have tried changing my channels to no avail. I changed some of the encryption things, TKIP to AES, WPA2 to WPA E etc. I can only connect to the internet when the settings are at default (WPA2/TKIP).
I am still not sure what is causing the problem.

12" either way may make all the difference.

Connected with a cable, and it gets 60Mbps. WiFi significantly slower. So either it is that specific location, or something is not quite right with the WiFi device.

Alright second day of having this wireless card in my PC. My download/upload speeds have shot up, but not back to normal. They've gone from 100Kbps to 20Mbps (bits). I have been moving around the antennas and got the speeds up by that small amount.

I am guessing your desktop is causing the interference. That's why moving the antennas around gets better speeds. If you can get an extension for your antennas it will probably get closer to the speeds of your other wireless devices.

I have seen this with USB wireless adapters and using a USB extension cable usually fixes it.
