No version of Vista is better than XP as regards usability, though Vista does add some new features (when it's working properly).
But in any case, you first need to check your computer manufacturer's website to see what drivers are available for your model.
If they don't have Vista drivers you'll have to stay with XP anyway (which is probably a good thing).

However, sometime in the future you'll find that any new hardware you buy isn't supported on XP so you'll have to think seriously about a new PC.

But for now, I would stick with XP if it's running okay. Vista is also very RAM-hungry, unlike Windows XP.

yes, I'd recommend you to upgrade to vista, XP is not safe anymore
some people will tell you that it's a bad idea, vista in it's early days (2007) was bad compared to xp and people had a horrible experience with it so they will tell you to stay away from it, in 2009 MS released 2 service packs that completely fixed vista and between 2010 and 2012 MS released "platform updates" that ported new Windows 7 technologies like DirectX 11 to vista but people refused to give vista a second chance as 7 was already out
I have vista running on 3 PCs and 2 laptops and they are running like a charm
