Hello,

I am going to be installing a EVGA GTX 780 ti Classified very soon and having spoken to a friend, he seems to think that the card is completely unnecessary as my native resolution is only 1920 x 1080. I do plant to upgrade the specification of my monitor at some point but I reasoned that the card was "future proofing" for possibly another 3 years or so?

Does anyone think that the card which I do intend to try and push as far as I can on air, is overkill? Any opinions would be appreciated!!

Thanks.

depends what games your playing as to whether it will be overkill... if your wanting crysis 3 and or bf4 maxed out with x4 aa 60 fps then the 780ti will do it whe many other cards wont. if your thinking peggle or angry birds then you can get away with a 100 dollar/ pound card and be perfectly happy.

Gtx 780ti on that resolution is overkill for now, but that changes as games demand more from the GPU, it is more future-proof as you said.
And if you plan to game on higher-res then it is a good investment. But overclocking it would not be necessary, only when you really need the extra performance or like high benchmarks.

Personally I play at 1920x1080 with my GTX 660. That's enough for most modern games at medium.

I don't think you need such a powerful GPU for this resolution. GPUs still double in performance every 4 years, so if you need it you can get 2x the performance at the same price with better tech: H.265 etc.
