I built a computer but sadly put a crappy GPU in it not knowing, so I wanted to know if I get a better GPU if my PSU is good enough for it.

Specs:
-Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0
-AMD Phenom X6 1055T
-Corsair CX500
-DDR3 4Gb Ram x2
-500GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gbps 16MB Cache 3.5-inch Internal Hard Drive

The GPU I want:
-AMD Radeon R9 270x

Solution
500W is close to ideal wattage for your build including the 270x, so it will work, any overclocks?

125W GPU
~100W CPU
probably no more than 40W for the 'rest' (all fans/drives included)

puts you at probably around 265W/500W which is basically 50% load...actually now that I think about it its a great match, 50% load is ideal for a power supply to operate at. those numbers are for under load, it will probably idle around 120W total or less
