I have a gaming computer I built, it has been working for the last few weeks. I left it on for a few hours to come back to a black screen that I could not get it to wake up from, tried unplugging for a few hours, making sure all my video cables and cards are still plugged in, nothing. I did get it to come back once for a few minutes, but as I was on it the screen just went black again. I have tried a different monitor, video cable, even a different video card but nothing. The computer is powering up all the fans and lights come on like normal. I even tried a different video card, tried re arranging my memory one at a time and trying one at a time. I want to say if a north bridge going out could do this cause mine was so hot to the touch, but the computer said it wasn't hot.

I solved the issue, Atleast I am pretty sure I did, before gaming on ultra settings, my gpu would range from 70-80, i guess when I wasnt paying attention it got higher which caused it to shut off, So I took my gtx part and saw the crappy heat sink paste, cleaned it applied some arctic silver 5, now during a 100% stress test on the gpu it only goes to about 65 after like 5-10 minutes. I am still gonna get my PSU and upgrade, cause a calculator I used says I need 550 and I am only running 500, Bought a nice 750. I will come back if the problem happens again, I am about 95% sure I fixed it though.

Still havent got my PSU, but I managed to get the PC back on by unplugging it and holding the power button for a good 20 seconds, everything was going fine let it idle for a while with no issues even played a game for maybe 20 minutes, thought it was good with no high temps, so I started playing a pretty spec demanding game and about 30-35 minutes in I smelt a electronic burning smell, I instantly tried to check my temps but it shut off with no video. I have a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard and I cant view the southbridge temps, any tips on so I can view em, and is it a protection thing where it makes me reset the computer by unplugging it to get it back on.
