Is the system set to enter sleep mode? Wondering if something is preventing it from doing so and then crashing the system. If that is the case you'll need to isolate the cause - by removing components.
Other things to make sure:
1) Ensure the board is running the latest UEFI and AI Suite software from the ASUS Support page.
2) Update any drivers on the system from the ASUS Support page (where applicable).
3) Ensure the SSD/HDDs are running the latest firmware versions.
4) Try removing a module of memory and running the system like that - see if the issue persists.

no it's not set to sleep at all. all drivers are updated.
one thing i did change, was the eco button on my power supply. turned it off, and its been fine since. :\
At least you figured out the cause.

Hi,I built a new system with the following config and am now stuck at a blank screen whenever the system boots (I did have it running in between) -
OS : Windows 7 x64
Mobo: Z97 Pro (Wifi) (bios not updated)
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790k
CPU Cooler: Corsair h100i
GPU: ASUS GTX780TI-DC2OC-3GD5
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB 1866
Ssd: Samsung 840 Evo 250 gb
Psu: CORSAIR HX Series HX750
I had this system up and running and there were no issues initially. When I
tried to change the TPU setting (to the second level), I started receiving
overclocking failures on boot up.
Now I only see a blank screen on booting (though the system is powered on).
I was able to get into BIOS once and I tried to restore all defaults (and I
got the message that no changes were made while exiting). After that my
screen has been blank all the time.
I tried getting the latest BIOS version on a USB and connected it up to the
system, but all I could see was a blank screen. I left the system on for
about 5 minutes hoping that the BIOS was updating in the background. But
all I could see on rebooting was a blank screen.
I've tested that my monitor is not the problem by connecting my laptop to
the monitor and it works fine.
***** Update - I looked up the the display on the Motherboard, and the following Q-code is where my system ends up -
3b - Post Memory PCH Initialization is started
***** Update - Fixed this issue, by hitting the MemOK! button while the system was in operation (following which it powered off). And I'm now able to boot into Windows.
I'm having this problem, but I haven't got windows installed. Every time I get through the first part of the installation and it wants to reset, I get the black screen.
The only way I can get out of that is by hitting the memOK button which gets me back to the bios.
Any suggestions?

I'm in the midst of assembling my PC based on the Z97-Pro. I plan to install 6 fans but found that the motherboard had only chassis fan 1 through 4. Is there a way to connect 6?
I recall in my old PC where fans had molex cables, I just daisy-chained them.
Also, I had bought corsair fans with three pin connectors. Does this mean I will not be able to control fan speed?

I had this board running for about 2 weeks, and I'm dissapointed. I'm experiencing a very weird issue with this mobo and my GPU, for a weird reason it caps the framebuffer usage and the GPU runs horrible, after a reboot everything works fine, tried disabling fastboot and loading everything using legacy boot but still the issue remains on every cold boot, the odd thing is this happens with this mobo and my GPU only, all the other GPUs work with no issues. I used a 4770 and a GTX 680, both PCI E slots had the same issue on cold boot.

Hi Guys,
I just got the Asus Z97-C with a 4790k and 4 sticks of Corsair 4Gb 1866 sticks CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9.
Those sticks are on the compatibility list and should work perfectly with the board.
My problem comes in when I enable XMP to get it to run at 1866Mhz. I get random lockups in windows and games, the last time I got this was with incompatible/ faulty RAM on my previous PC.
I can't run the wizard in the BIOS and set it gaming, it just reboots and states "OC failed".
When I disable XMP so that it runs at 1666Mhz the PC works perfectly and doesn't lock up at all.
Do you guys have any ideas?

Just installed an Asus Z97 Sabretooth Mark 2 with an i5 4690K CPU / 8 Gb COrsair Vengeance Pro CL 9 ram with an EVGA 780ti SC ACX video card...
Im just wondering what BIOS settings I need to look at to get good gaming results.. Evrything is on default values at the moment. Have just installed the 1202 BIOS
Can I change the RAM to X.M.P?
Have an Antec 920 water cooling kit on board...

Do you have the latest BIOS? Did all the DRAM come in a single package or did it come as two sets of 2 sticks, if the latter that can be causing problems, XMP is programmed by the packaged set and advanced timings will differ from a 2 stick set and a 4 stick setThanks, I'm on Z97-C BIOS 2103 so there is one newer version. I did however get the RAM in 2 sets of 2 so it could be that XMP timings are different, is there a way I could find a middle ground or should I just sell them and get 1 package?

Yes enable XMP for now and see if the system is stable - before trying any CPU overclocking.

Combining kits can lead to instability - it can take some tweaking of timings and voltages to find a middle ground. You can try increasing the primary timings by +1 and see if that helps.
Buying a single kit can make things easier.

I'd try the BIOS update first, then if no joy, try at 1866 with the spec timings (9-10-9-27), DRAM voltage at 1.57 and raise the CPUVTT voltage to 1.12 (that's your MC (memory controller) voltage (may also be listed as DDRVTT or just VTT)

Last night I tried just 1 pack at a time and I still had the same issue. I can't set it to gaming mode in the bios, I can't enable the GPU boost switch or XMP, all of those cause windows to lock up.
I then tried my old 1333Mhz ram and the pc works fine, obviously without any overclocking because the RAM has no headroom for it.
It really seems like they are not compatible even though they are on the compatibility list on the Asus website.
Could anyone recommend any RAM for this board? Asus Z97-C

Thanks, I'll give that a shot but the latest BIOS version says nothing about improving RAM compatibility. It's just really strange, you'd think that if you bought RAM that was on the compatibility list it should just work perfectly out of the box without the need to manually tweak something.

Ok, I updated the BIOS to the latest version last night, now I get no signal to my monitor.
I've reset the BIOS with the jumper, removed the battery for 15 minutes, removed all other hardware except the CPU and RAM, still nothing.
as a last resort I removed all the RAM as well but that didn't help(doesn't beep), when I plug the screen into the onboard vga it get's something from the board as the screen doesn't go into power saving but it just displays nothing.
also, if the board doesn't have RAM in it it keeps running(allthough not displaying anything) but when I populate the slots with any number of DIMMS it starts up (still not displaying anything) keeps running for about a minute and reboots.
any ideas?

A few things to note after having read the last few posts in this thread:
1) Which method did you use to update EFI (BIOS)?
2) It is possible the EFI has become corrupt if the board was not stable when flashed. If it will not POST you may need to RMA it.
3) For sake of clarification: On this platform, the voltages that relate directly to DRAM stability on the CPU memory controller side are VCCIO-D, VCCSA, Cache Voltage and to a lesser extent VCCIO-A. Some CPUs need more voltage than others. Sample variance is quite large with Haswell.

Thanks for the reply,
1) I used the Bupdater Utility V1.30 for flash BIOS under DOS listed on the Asus site for this board to update to the Z97-C BIOS 2202 version.
2) I guess I will just have to log a support call for this.
3) Thanks for this, is there a reference I can use or will this just be trial and error?

Hello Raja, thanks for the opportunity to get helped.
I recently built a new system with these components: Asus z97 VII Gene, Intel i7 4790k (Stock Cooler), 2x4 gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz RAM, Sapphire R9 290x Tri-x OC and an EVGA SuperNova 1000 G2, plus 5 noctua fans for good cooling.
When I first installed everything, it was all running rather fine and the only problem I encountered building was that the cpu latch thingie was so hard it slightly scratched my cpu. My 3dmark was more or less in the low part of the average of people with my specs. I tried the Asus optimizes BIOS Setting and the EZ overclock thing which detects my components and automatically overclocks them and it worked poerfectly.
Since I was dissapointed with my system being in the lowest part of the average scores, I decided to install the new BIOS to see if that helped.
I used the EZ Update app to update my BIOS to the 1002 version which is the latest according to asus' website. I did it inside of Windows. After the update, the pc restarted and I tried to go directly into the bios but it said "installing rog1" with a black screen and restarted again, the second time i tried to go again into the bios but this time it said "installing rog3" and restarted yet again. Then, the third time, I could access the BIOS. I entered the settings I had before (loaded my memory's XMP profile, set the BIOS settings to asus optimized and pressed the EZ tune thingie). After that disaster ensued. The first time, right after the Windows logo the screen remained black, followed a few seconds after by a glitchy-looking green screen. The pc restarted and then it just hanged. Restarted again by itself and after that I can't recall if the BIOS asked me to (with an overclocked failed message) or if I did it by myself, but all the settings were set to stock, and when windows launched it said there was an error and that it needed to repair it, whichj it did by rolling back the system to before I had all my drivers and basic programs, so I had to reinstall those. After that, I noticed I could boot succesfully as long as I didn't set the BIOS settings to asus optimized, I could use EZ tune (the overclocking auto thingie) though, which was weird. I was doing worse in all of my benchmarks and if I turned on the asus optimized thing it would make windows crash. Last thing I did was reflash with the EZ update thing but directly from the BIOS with the same 1002 version. This time it went better as I could use the EZ tune (ow whatever it's called) feature to "overclock" and sometimes use the asus optimized settings, though it sometimes says "overclocking failed!" in the american megatrends screen. EDIT: What I meant to say is that it has been rather glitchy after BIOS 1002.
It seems rather odd that I'm doing worse than before in my 3dmark benchmark, and about the same in the valley benchmark, which could (could) suggest that the rollback is CPU related. Some people also say in the internet that it is RAM related, but so far I haven't encountered any errors/problems that make me think that way. EDIT: I just want to know what can I do to be ablke to use my components to the fullest without messing everything up until it crashes.
P.S.: I plan on getting a better CPU cooler cause CPU temps are not great, but under load they're not terrible either, which makes me think this is not the issue.
After all this ramling (sorry) what I wanted to ask is:
1. Is there any possibility I harmed my PC in a permanent way? How can I test for that?
2. What's my best option for improved stability/performance? Staying in this BIOS version or rolling back (if so, how?)? Why is it doing worse?
3. What other recommendations do you have to make the most out of my ROG experience (
)?
Thanks so much in advance for the time and help! (didn't double check spelling so sorry for the mistakes)

Hi,
1) No. Just sounds like system instability.
2) Clear CMOS. Run the system at defaults and see how it does for a few days.
3) Would follow number two for a while. If that does not help try moving the memory to the other slot in each channel.
4) Just to clarify, some of the UEFI updates have updates in them for onboard microcontrollers - that's why an updating iROG-1 or 2 message is seen after the flash. The board may restart itself a few times between updating which is perfectly normal. Should be left alone to do that.

Hi, not sure if it is the right place to ask, but I am considering getting one of the new intel core i7 processors and I need a motherboard and I want to buy it from Asus. I am a gamer, and I am confused as to which series of Asus motherboards should I go for? What are the key differences, why are ROG series generally more expensive despite lacking many areas in terms of features than Asus signature series?
Finally, I am trying to find the headphone audio DAC rating for z97 pro, what is the impedance?
Thank you

Be sest to look for the features you need and want, over all I've went with the Hero in the Z87 and absolutely no regrets, so I grabbed the Z97 version also and it's even better....you can check specific features here:

I just bought a new system with
Asus Z97-A Z97
Intel Core i7 4790K
Corsair 16 GB (2*8GB)
WD 4 TB
and I use an old AMD Radeon HD 7970.
I get to the UEFI BIOS utility (all the parts are detected), I have burned a DVD with CentOS 7 but whenever I reboot to start the installation process I only get to the UEFI BIOS utility again, am I missing something?
Edit: It worked fine when I burned the dvd in Windows instead of OSX...

I have the Sabertooth Mark 2 Z97 board and installed AI suite III but I do not see any OC tuner or any way to OC using it?
I did try using the Overclocking wizard in the BIOS but I got into 4 minutes of playing BF 4 when it bluescreened!
I just want to overclock to 4.ghz and I have Corsair H80i all in one watercooling... is there a "foolproof" way of doing it?

1) The Sabertooth does not have the Auto-Tuning feature in AI Suite III.
2) If the Wizard profile is not stable, chances are your CPU needs higher Vcore than it applies. There are some CPUs out there that are below average. You will need to increase Vcore manually from the AI Tweaker menu and see if that helps stabilize it.
