the main games i will be running is Team Fortress 2, Garry's mod (DarkRP) and DayZ.
my dad has alot of experience with how to handle a server, but he never makes them, he tells his colleges what he needs and they will make it for him, he's never used a server build to run a dedicated server before, so i need some advice from you.

Some of the questions i have:
do i need alot of RAM?
do i need a high-end motherboard that can run dual or even quadruple CPUs?
do i need a high-end CPU?
do i need a cache SSD?

additional notes: i have a 480mbit network connection, i have a custom built router built by my dad from an old pc. The game Garry's mod has a mod called Dark Roleplay and it if my server reaches up to 90 players i will need something that can handle that well, because i've seen servers like this lag alot when it reaches 90 players.

my price range would be anything around 1000 GBP

Isn't it cheaper to rent a server these days? $100 us a month?

you could rent 1 each of those servers for a year for about 60% of that price, no maintenance, no bills. or you could just rent a physical box.

i could, but that's not enough for me and to make it enough i will have to pay more money and i'll just end up paying more. i also do like to control things myself and in the future i will be running my own websites on it.

i want to maintain my server build because i want to know how, because i'm aiming for the same as my dad.

well in that case, we were using dayzst.com as a host and their specs were fairly high but we also ran test servers (one on vm on the same machine that I was gaming on (only a few players) and there's wasn't much ram usage.

The only thing I'm not sure about is how much of a GPU you need, if (as I suspect ) it's not much, then 32Gb of RAM socket 2011, and SSD's, or perhaps an 8 core AMD chip, but it'll be hotter. You could also start at 16GB on 2 sticks and if you are getting close then you could get another 16GB.

The biggest constaint is your connection however, I'm assuming you've got that sorted out.
