I am getting a good deal on a 4930k and was looking at motherboards for them. I see the X79 chip set, specifically the X79 deluxe from Asus (( https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X79DELUXE/ ))... But I do not want to get an older board and do not want to see a new one next week or next month... Is the x79 chipset the current chip set for the 2011 i7 4930k? Is Asus making a new board for 2011?

Yep. I knew I would mess that post up. It is the X99 and not the X97. Thinl memory is pricey now ? Wait until DDR4 comes along.

Yep, just got the Z97 Hero and it's great so far, Asus seemed to be ahead of all the other mobo makers on the Z87, figured they would on the Z97 also, and think I was right, it's top notch, haven't found a glitch yet......now will be waiting for the Haswell refresh K models, going to go 4690K on this when they are released. Have a spare 4770K in it at the moment

I'm still checking the Z97 to see if it worth moving up from the Z87. My last Upgrade was in June last year and I moved from a Z68 w/ 2600k to the Z87 w/ 4770k. I had a Samsung 1TB SSD and an EVGA GTX 780Ti on my wish list, but it is on hold. My Mom died in early Feb. and there are some isssues with the house. I have been living hhere for some time and my siblings want to sell it. I had a massive heart attack in Oct. '12 and not up for moving, so I will buying their shares of the house. Until all that stuff gets sorted and settled down, probably won't be getting much of anything. My sister was named as executor and everytime I turn around she comes up with something that just gets deeper in my savings and increases the mortgage payments. Had it all worked out, but she moved the goal posts again.

You might want to wait on the Z97 till Broadwell is released, I'm doing the Z97 as in part, i build rigs in my systems business and it's something for people to see, will still have my Z87 running and have both an IB and a SB available, will prob sell off the SB or give it to family

I have my old ASUS P8 Z68 V-Pro MOBO and 2600k Sandy. Usually I don't make a move until I am sure the performance boost will justify the cost. The reason I skipped Ivy. Made a huge difference in the benchies when I moved to the Haswell.

I got 4.6 out of this one, but it wanted nothing to do with 4.8 because of my cooler. I have seen it done on a Noctua and I believe Hyper 212. I have a Gelid Tranquillo that does a good job. The one with the Noctua was using the same MOBO I am ( ASUS Z87-Pro ).

I started with a Zalman CNPS 10X Performa. Thing was too big and I lost the use of one DIMM slot. Worked well though.
