Computer freezing/shutting itself down during gaming

So, sometimes when I'm playing a computer game (lately happening with Dark Souls 2 and Goat Simulator), my computer will completely freeze and not even ctrl-shift-escape/ctrl-alt-del do anything. In some cases the computer will just shut down out of nowhere.

My guess is that something is overheating, but I feel as though something like Goat Simulator shouldn't really be that difficult to run.

When I go into "Event Viewer" I see this:
The previous system shutdown at 5:18:56 PM on ‎11/‎05/‎2014 was unexpected.

My computer:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
AMD FX-4100
8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 805MHz (4-5-5-15)
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-990FXA-UD3 (Socket M2)
1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Gigabyte)
1863GB Seagate ST2000DM001-9YN164 ATA Device (SATA)

Can anyone help me figure out why this is happening? If it is over-heating, is there any way of telling which part is causing the overheating?

Thanks

how can i run a test on my psu and gpu or cpu to see if one or the other is a problem??

hey scout sorry for taking so long i dont think it emailed me that you replied. what i put above was the sensor page of hwinfo. atleast i think it was. when i open hwinfo and click 'sensor only' it only has a 'save and quit' button and i didnt see where it saved anything. i can also post the .csv file from monitoring. nothing crazy to report on there from an hour of monitoring.

i tried doing the full hwinfo and then using the save report option and selected just the sensors to be logged which is the report above...but its cut off since it only allows 1600 characters per post. how can i attach a file??

i put it on onedrive for you to look at.

i've ran these tests:
intel burn : never went above 52C
video game for like an hour....no errors or freezes
memtest86: no errors

the freeze is absolutely random.

reoccurring themes from searching 'my pc has frozen':

yes, i have a gigabyte motherboard (z68xp-ud3)
i have virtual pc or whatever those options are enabled in BIOS
i have an nvidia card (GTX 460)

the main problem in figuring out if its my video card is that i cannot remember what drivers i had before these errors occured since i did a clean install of windows 8.1 which is when these problems started happening. a lot of googling talks about how "everything after 314.x is broken" but i can't imagine that i had skipped that many drivers as we're now on 334 or something.

i also have a rather old BIOS version. I saw no reason to update it as i've always been afraid of breaking the MOBO, and i had never had errors or problems until a few days ago. bios version F4.
