Hey guys.

So I want to upgrade my graphics card.
I'm thinking I want either the 290 or the 290X but there is an annoying price difference.

My question is, does the price different justify the performance difference? How much better is the 290X then the 290?

Also, what is the cheapest non-reference 290 or 290X card out there?

I'd also like a relatively quiet one, I don't care if the performance is lost from that.

Thanks in advance.

Get a R9 290 and OC it, here is the cheapest R9 290 currently and after promo and rebate on Newegg is only $369.90 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-video-card-r9290aedfd
And here is an alternative: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HS84DFU/?tag=pcpapi-20

Well, Tomshardware has done a few articles regarding both cards. The general performance difference is around 10%. Both cards are amazing for 1440p and are even good for 4k, if you turn down the textures a bit. Given the 100$ price difference between the two, I would go for an R9 290 and use the 100$ elsewhere in your rig. Most non reference designs are good but a few particularly good ones are Sapphire's Tri-X and Gigabyte's Windforce.

Hope I answered all your questions.
Cheers mate!

If quiet videocard is what you want, you should look for something with better cooling like Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Vapor-X.
Cheapest will for sure wont be most quiet because cooler is one thing its easiest to save money on.

As for 290 vs 290x recommendation, 290 have better price/performance ratio, unless you want to max out everything or go 4k it should be sufficient.
