Gaming build (CPU, GPU, Motherboard)

Hi,

This is my first time building a High-End gaming rig though I owned 2 mid-range laptops in the past (Asus K40IN and Asus K53SV). Kindly check if this is a good combination. I would be playing with a single monitor on 1080p resolution. I want my build to last like 5 years before I do my next upgrade. I am tight on budget. I want a build that is of a high performance but affordable.

Intel Core i7-4770K Processor Socket 1150 3.40ghz 8m - I think developers are starting to make use of the HTT thus making this processor more like future proof.
Msi Z87-gd65-gaming Motherboard Socket 1150 Pcie Ddr3 - Good aesthetics and features. Though I have heard other users having bad experiences with MSI overall quality.
Asus GTX 770 DirectCU II OC 2gb-256bit Pcie Ddr5 - Is it worth to get the 780 instead of 770? but the price difference is huge.

I am planning to get the components here http://www.easypc.com.ph.

Thank you in advance.

MSI has a a history of higher return rates but still relatively low (3% vs everyone else at about 2%) but they're not that bad. ASUS and Gigabyte and others have their share of returns (just finished an ASUS one for a friend)

For a single screen, the 770 will do fine but unlikely to last 5 years. However, when talking about GPUs, it's best to buy mid range cards ($200-$400) and upgrade in 2-3 years than getting a $500+ card that you use for 5 years. That's because newer cards use less power, offer newer features and are supported for longer. So getting a 770 and then grabbing a 970 is better than a 780 now, especially on a single 1080p.

For motherboard, you could consider getting a Z97 board since its offers a few more features and it...

For CPU, the 4770k is good if you plan to OC. However, if you do OC, it may be worth while to consider Devil's Canyon which is supposed to over clock better and expected to release soon.

What are your suggestions for motherboard that is z97? Is the GTX 770 still compatible on a z97 board?

As per this link http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-geforce-cards.html. 3D is supported up to GTX 690 only. How come higher end GPU do not support 3D? GPU like GTX 770, 780 , etc.

I bought it 6 months ago so it was the newest revision I think it was rev 3.0. It literally started smoking and had an orange spark fly out from the mobo I thought it killed all my parts connected but thankfully only the mobo.
