Hi all,

I have a laptop but it keeps on overheating and most of the components stop working. I desided to go for a desktop, but I haven't build one in ages. I already have the sceen, mouse, keyboard and windows 7 64 but need to buy everything else.

I mostly do work (MS office) and I know I shoudn't but I always have 10 tabs open in my browser. When I have a bit of time, I like to do some graphic design and 3d modeling. I also use my computer as a Plex media server to use with my Chromecast. I was thinking of going with a SSD as primary HD and have a second for storage.

I tried building a computer based on the PC part picker website, but I quickly realised that I needed some help. My budget is around 1000$

Thank in advance for any answer you might be able to give.

I would not go with the radeon GPU. Geforce GPUs are known for performing better in graphic design (speaking from experience) and here is a quick review of their performance in autopcad: http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/AutoDesk-AutoCAD-2013-GPU-Acceleration-164/

I would personally spend the extra 40-50 dollars to get the 660 or 760. Aside from that, there was a comment about skimping on the ssd. There would be no particular problem with doing such; however, I personally like the extra 100 GB to store the files that I am currently using as those CAD files can take forever to load when saved on a hard drive.

This sounds good. I might put a smaller SSD 120gb and a less expensive power supply (http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=78577&vpn=CP-9020060-NA&manufacture=Corsair&promoid=1078) and opt for a i7 3770K.

What do you think?
