Allocating more SYSTEM RAM to a game/application

Hi,
I want to assign more RAM to gta 4. Is there a way to do this? By RAM i mean SYSTEM RAM, not VRAM. I DO NOT WANT TO CONVERT SYSTEM RAM TO VRAM FOR GTA 4 as i have 2gb of vram (not trying to be rude because i could not find any threads regarding my question). Every like 30 minutes of gameplay (fullscreen) a window would come up and say that my system is running low on memory but i have 8gb of ram. does anybody know how to assign more ram to any game or application. i bought gta 4 on steam FYI

My laptop specs are:
intel 4702MQ 2.3GHz (3.3Ghz) (4th Gen)
intel hd 4600
nvdia gt 740m (dedicated) - 2gb GDDR3
500gb 7200rpm hard drive
8gb RAM DDR3 1600MHz
windows 8.1 (64bit)

any help is appreciated! thank you

Solution
Windows automatically allocates as much RAM as a program needs. If it's unable to allocate more, it's because you've run out of system RAM.

What do you have open in the background?
gta 4 requires 1.5gigs of vram to run the stock game at max settings. it uses about 2 gigs of system ram to run the actual game.
you could try checking to see if the games exe is large address aware (can allocate more than 3 gigs of system ram to the game) and see if that helps but if your running a modded version of the game then its likely your running out of vram and you can allocate system ram to cover that.

in bios make sure you have disabled the intel onboard gfx.

No you can't.

Operating systems allocate memory to applications only when the application requests it and only if memory is available. If the system runs out of memory and cannot meet the application's request, it is up to the application designer to handle this appropriately.

GTA IV is notorious for being a very poor console port. PC performance is terrible.

thanks guys for your quick responses. i don't have much applications open. Steam and Firefox is just about it. When i go to the task manager while having gta 4 in the background it says that i am using 4gb of ram. So i guess its a restriction? I managed to allocate 3gb of ram for minecraft in the launcher, however, when i view the ingame minecraft information(i dont know what its called) it uses only a couple hundred of mb out of 3000+mb. Hmmmm... Thank you for your really quick response! still waiting for apple community response....lol.

Minecraft is an exception to the rule in the ability to assign more memory to be used. Frankly, it's not that well coded in spots.

*When it says "low memory" I still think you are talking about Virtual Memory as I discussed above. Did you see if it's managed by Windows? It should be.

GTA4 and 4GB of memory?
The game can't use that much. I think you're probably talking about the TOTAL memory used of your 8GB not just what GTA4 uses. You can see what a program uses under Task Manager -> "Processes" however for games you normally have no control over assigning that.
