First off I am putting together my first build and I have been using the newegg tutorial video to help me a bit. It is said to test the mobo, psu, gpu, CPU fan and psu outside of the case. My question is if you are running an sli setup would you want to hook both gpus outside the case as well?

Personally I don't recommend someone without a fair amount of prior experience build outside a case at all. It is not difficult to damage your PCI-E mounting slots without the benefit of a case to stabilize the cards. But if you are going to do it, I would test the cards one at a time.

SLI can be a bit frustrating to get running correctly in the best of cases, and knowing that both cards are working independently is a good starting point.
