Hi people,

I've been thinking about upgrading my gpu, rams and also overclock my cpu so I've come here to ask you.

My system:
Phenom II x4 965 BE 3.4ghz
Mobo: M4N68T-M (I know it's bad)
RAM: 1333mhz 2x2gb Kingston (I will upgrade them to 4gb so that I can get 8gb in total)
Graphic card: Powercolor hd5770 ( I'm about to replace it with Powercolor R9 270x PCS+ )
PSU: 650W (+12v 624w & 52A)
PC Tower: Akasa Zen AK-ZEN-01

Also I'm interested in 3d games and movies so I will connect my pc to my LED TV which has Passive 3D technology. Some people suggested me to buy R9 270x but some of them said It wouldn't be that apporiprate so I'd better overclock my cpu. I don't know overclocking, I have a friend who is expert though.

In short: What are your opinions about my future graphic card and overclocking my cpu ? Would they bottleneck ? Do I have to overclock it in order to gain full benefit from my future graphic card and buy a new cooler (Coolermaster Evo 212 in my mind) If I manage to overclock it and If my motherboard can't handle, could you suggest me cheaper mobo ? Would all of those things worth to their price for performance ?

Edit: Thanks to best aswer's owner, I have learned my processor is BE

Solution
Make sure to match the ram with the exact same brand and model number or you will run into issues. I also agree that the 270x matches up well with your chip. In some games an overclock on your CPU would help a lot though. Just make sure you have proper cooling, and a good enough motherboard and power supply to do so. Here is a guide for overclocking the PHII x4 965. http://www.overclock.net/t/525113/phenom-ii-overclocking-guide Hope this helps. :)

PS: I didn't even know that there was a non black edition of the x4 965. lol.

Thanks for your reply. Would 1600 mhz ram be ok for my system ?

Phenom II 965 is still a decent CPU and usually overclocks to the 3.8-4.0GHz range with good cooling.

If your board supports it, toss some low latency DDR3 1600 in with a good air cooler and you'll be fine with a single R9 270x.

For reference: Before my current builds I had a Phenom II x6 1090T @ 4.0GHz able to drive 2 x HD 7950's in crossfire with Crysis 3 maxed except for 2x SMAA. It kept both GPUs at 95-99% and held 40-60FPS. So your x4 still has some life left in it, but current/up-coming releases like BF4 and Watchdogs are going to need something a little faster. An FX 6300 or 8320 with a good cooling/OC on a solid 970 board would be a decent upgrade path without huge cost.

1333mhz RAM is fine, as long as you have 8gb. If it's a tiny amount, sure go ahead and pay $5 or so extra for 1600 or 1866. A 270x is a great card, and will work nicely. Go for a new CPU as soon as you can, though.

Also, his motherboard only has two slots, which means he needs to get two 4gb sticks and get rid of the old ones.

Also, if you claim you do not have a black edition CPU, I do not suggest overclocking it, as the black edition means it is unlocked, which allows overclocking in the first place. You can get a little bit out of it if it's not unlocked, but it is fairly difficult and won't be noticeable or worth it.

That was a very good performance you got there. It's good to know that my processor still acceptable, I bought my system 5 years ago, anyway I have stiil got the case of my mobo and it says

I guess it would fit, wouldn't it ?
