Hi there ive made many posts deliberating different gpu's and due to the 780 ti's low 3Gb memory ive been advised over and over that it just would not cut it for 5760 x 1080 with 3 Dell UltraSharp U2414H at 60Mhz.

I just came across the new sapphire card after quiting my research on nvidia cards and going onto look at amd cards due to their higher memory and well they seems to be doing better when it comes to triple monitor display with eyefinity over nvidia surround.

At first i looked at the basics, not after market cards but after many articles and benchmarks ive seen single and especially crossfire setups of the AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB and 290x either get extremely hot, give off a lot of noise and just cause the user a lot of problems. since the sapphire Tri-x has such positive feedback and praise ive considered the new vapour to be up there in consideration. I have also considered waiting for the Nvidia GTX 780 Ti 6Gb version but i just dont know how long that will take,

My choices are as follow:

A single 780 Ti 3Gb (may become Sli when prices lower i may pick up a 2nd)

A single 780 Ti 6Gb (wait and wait, my patience is wearing thin)

A single Sapphire Radeon R9 290x Vapor-X 4GB (perhaps crossfire but considering the tri-x 290x version seem be -10% better than the tri-x 290 version i dont think the extra £150 for the x makes it worth the extra cost, overkill ? )

Crossfire Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Vapor-X 4GB (its within my budget, and it seems to be the best choice for 3x monitors at 5760 x 1080, £240 cheaper than the vapour 290x in crossfire and only just behind in performance and bench marking ? )

How would Crossfire Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Vapor-X 4GB compare in fps and performance to a single 780 Ti 6Gb for a triple monitor setup at 5760 x 1080?

How would Crossfire Sapphire Radeon R9 290x Vapor-X 4GB compare in fps and performance to a Sli 780 Ti 3GB for a triple monitor setup at 5760 x 1080?

I intend to play game like DayzSA, bg4, tomd raider, titan fall, garrys mod, maybe a little skyrim, some assassins creed. yeh i noticed that first article, so many people have suggested to go with at least 4gb of memory on the gpu and then the other half of people have said 3gb is enough ><

I would love some feedback, suggestions for another option ? Any advice is welcome especially from someone who has overcome a similar dilemma

CPU Overclocking: 4.3Ghz - Extreme Overclock
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100 Extreme Water Cooler
Operating System: Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Hero
RAM: 16GB Corsair 2133mhz Vengeance Pro (2x8GB)
Hard Drive: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5 inch Basic SATA SSD
Secondary Hard Drive: 1TB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s HHD
Optical Drive: 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA
Graphics card: ?
Sound card: Onboard 7.1 Audio
Case: CM Storm Trooper or Corsair Obsidian 750D (Not sure Yet)
PSU: 850W Corsair RM Fully Modular (enough for sapphire vapour 290 and 290x crossfire ?)
Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2414H at 60Mhz. x 3

That monitor has the DisplayPort input you would need to get EyeFinity working on AMD cards. Since that monitor only has HDMI and DisplayPort hookups, you would do one with HDMI, one with DisplayPort, and then hookup the third monitor to the monitor that is hooked up via DisplayPort (daisy chaining).

And unless you're getting an XL-ATX or E-ATX board, I wouldn't get the 750D, as it's a full tower, and will make a normal ATX sized board look small. In my opinion, it'll make the sleek professional look go out the window lol Corsair just recently came out with the 450D, which has a bit better airflow with the same overall style that is Mid-Tower, that - I think - would look better and still be very sleek/professional.

I would go the Crossfire 290 setup. You can grab a pair of em for just a bit over the cost of a 780 Ti. The 290s can be overclocked well - generally - and perform similarly to a 780 on their own.

Though if you do this, I would grab a better power supply. 850w is bare minimum for dual 290s, and the RM series is low quality. You can grab an EVGA SuperNOVA 1000G2 for about $150, which will be a great power supply for dual 290s, and very well priced.

3GB is fine for now on VRAM, but if you plan on long-term usage of this setup, the 4GB would be more future proof. The last thing you want onn SLI 780 Ti rig is frame drops due to VRAM constraints.

About the heat issue: 290s run warm, and 290X's run hot, when using the reference cooler. The Sapphire cooler is much better, and the 290s stay reasonably cool with the custom cooling solutions. Might add another intake or two if you have the option, though, as Crossfire/SLI adds some heat by nature.

Oh thank you for the reply, hmm yeh the power supply i choose seemed to be hit and miss on some review sites and online shops. i would of upgraded to the 1000w rm but its the same, the evga looks to be #1, thanks for that advice ! Would you recommend chanign anything else on my build ?

After post and post and many questions and hours upon hours of research ive chosen to go with amd cards and specifically crossfire vapor r9 290, the perfect set of gpus for 5760 x 1080, i originally went down the 780 ti route but after talking it through the 3gb wouldnt be sufficient for use at this moment and in order to meet the minimum requirements for some games at this veyr moment while using 3 monitors and i want to make my build future proof.

I would end up with problems and most likely have to replace them with new cards with higher memory soon than later (waiting for the 780 ti 6Gb is just not something i can be asked to do) Remember that the u2414h is an ips 60mhz and thus it maximum fps is 60fps anyway if i can reach that and keep it stable with crossfire 290 then thats their job done and that extra fps from sli 780 ti would be wasted and ofc that extra £300 - £400 could be spent better else where.

I also considered crossfire vapor r9 290x however the extra £240 that will cost over crossfire vapor 290 does not justify the minimal 5 - 7 % increase in performance. i could overclock the 290's and probably get them near to the vapor 290x, performance and save that money ><

I was actually meaning to ask about the connections with the u2414h, i didnt want to purchase the wrong adapters etc and then find my self with everything going wrong, their specific and must be of high quailty from what im aware of, so they wont break down on me 2 months later. would someone be able to link me on amazon or somewhere else the exact adapters required, people talk about requiring active etc, im a little confused.

1 x HDMI (with 3D)

2 x Dual-Link DVI-D

Did you daisy chain the monitors together btw ?

I also got myself the XFX triple monitor stand btw, just looks so damn beautiful. got a really good deal on one. Would you recommend a particular case that goes with it lol. my original choice was 750d and it still is, curious if there are any cases out there that might match the stand a little more :)

On to the 290s in Crossfire. In most games you should get around 60 FPS or so in Ultra at the 5760x1080, though in some of the harder hitting games you may have to settle for High, or tweaking the AA or something, but dual 290s is still fully capable of running 5760x1080 very well.

Go with the dual 290s, but you would only a need at least a 800 Watt PSU
