I have a EMachines Dual Core E300 (1.3 GHz) 64 bit processor. Running Win. 7 Home; 500 GB Hard Drive
I have 3 questions:
1. I upgrade my 2GB RAM to 8GB (7.5 usable) what does this mean?
2. My PC is still running very slow, what can I do to get it faster?
3. When I click on a program on my desktop it's slow to open why?

7.5 gb usable, windows has reserved the other .5 gb
2. Your CPU is a Intel Core 2 duo E3000 cpu. Its quite slow i suggest you upgrade to a intel core 2 quad that is at least 3.0 ghz.
3. Ram and cpu speed effect loading times very little. if your using a hard disk drive, a HDD, your load times will be slow still as the hdd can only read so many megabytes per second. A upgrade to a 250gb Samsung 840 Evo ssd will have your system booting and load applications extremely fast. you can then use your hdd for storage.

Check that you have the latest BIOS, should be a fair bit snappier with 8GB, guessing the BIOS didn't set the sticks up to well. Also you said you upgraded from 2GB to 8GB - is it a 2x4GB set you upgraded to? or a 4x2GB set? or did you just add 6GB (3x2GB) to the curent 2 GB you had - all of those can have different effects on the system
