Hi! This is my first time posting on here. I bought a G1 sniper Z87 motherboard which it says has Dolby digital live on it. I run my PC through my TV using HDMI and i'm trying to get my games running 5.1 by connecting the PC to the home cinema system using spdif. I understand that Optical cables run 2.1 unless encoded by Dolby. I'm not getting any surround sound. The sound blaster control panel 5.1 test is just silent. Where am i going wrong? Or am i just being stupid?? Cheers!

Go to control panel>sound>playback devices. Right click on the SPDIF output (the name differs) that you have set as your default device and select properties. Click on the tab on the right (advanced). In that tab you should be able to select Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1 under 'Default format'. Now it should work.

Click the Windows icon on the lower left corner of your screen and type 'Realtek' into the search bar. There should be a program called 'realtek hd audio manager', open it. Once you've done that, click the icon of the optical SPDIF. You should be able to select dolby digital in the leftmost tab.

Hi, i've got no realtek audio manager. It's a sound blaster chip. Still no luck! I can make SPDIF my default device but still no 5.1!

Try searching 'sound blaster' or 'creative' then.

Take a screenshot of the sound blaster control panel and post it to a site like this, then link it here.

Hey! I have the same problem.

I´m using a Coax output and I only see 2 channels in the advanced features. The Soundblaster interface doesn´t recognize my 5.1 system

Can you help me please?
