I want to buy a new LGA775 cooler for my old computer and i would like to know waht type of cooler is better, i dont care about sound or size, just the cooling power.

So, cpu to heatpipes to radiator to vent or cpu to radiator to vent on top of it?

The top one, because it has copper rods which are a better conductor of heat and also the fan on the top one is bigger (120mm) compared to the smaller fan on the bottom one.
Hope this helps!

If you want cooling power go liquid cooling.

Im more interested to know what type of architecture is more efficient at cooling, one is vertical but the other one sits horizontally on top of the motherboard. horizontal one blows hot air back on top of the motherboard but the vertical one has the negative effect that heat has kinda have to travel longer distance to be cooled off... if you can understand what my brain just typed out

I agree with @stjohn liquid cooling would be the best.
Without going too far like liquid nitrogen :D

Look for a CPU cooler that has a 95W TDP or over.
I would recommend it to have a TDP of 110-125W.
This way there's no way it can over heat as its does produce quite a bit of heat.
The CPU coolers that stand up are always the best because the fans on them are always facing towards the rear case fan to push the hot air away.
where as on a standard heat sink with the fan flat on top of the heat sink, they heat is blown to the side panel, which is pointless unless you have a side fan.
Hope this helps!

I chose the DEEPCOOL ICE GAMMAXX 300 UNIVERSAL COOLER XDC-GAMMAXX300
i like the look of it, it has a 120mm fan and a 125w TDP.
Thanks everyone for your answers, much appriciated.
