Hard disk problems

A new hard disk that previously ran fine now doesn't let the PC get past the bios screen until it is disconnected (trying to access the bios setup or boot menu does nothing). I've tried different SATA cables, different SATA ports that work for other hard disks and same result. I've tried the hard disk in another PC and it works fine. I tried disconnecting my GTX 480 graphics card to see if it's a power supply issue and to use the onboard VGA instead, but still it won't boot with the hard disk connected. Any ideas what the problem is?

Test the power supply and if that's not it, remove all the ram and all the add-in 'cards' (GPU's, Controllers...) reset the bios using the jumper (see your owners manual) and try booting it up. It should start beeping an error code for no ram. If it doesn't and you do have a system speaker (it used to beep once on startup when it did work right?) then its the motherboard or the processor.
