Hi,
I have a program installed on my old computer, updated with the OS to Win8.1. I have a new computer I'd like to start using, for this very program, but I do not have an install disc for it any longer (been many years; still is fine on Win8.1). If I could, I'd like to migrate the program from the old computer to the new one.

The old computer is running Windows 8.1, while the new one has Windows 7.

Can I clone the old HD (including the program) to a new SSD, and get that into the new computer?

Thank you so very much for your help!

B

Solution
You cannot close the HDD and put it in a new computer. The new computer will not recognize the motherboard and other drivers. Generally this does not work.

The new computer will get confused with the new Windows installation, and it will ask you to reinstall it or to repair the installation. You will be on windows 8.1 on the new machine, not 7 any longer IF you can even get it to work.
