Do I need to reinstall Windows 8.1 to enable UEFI?

I already have Windows 8.1 installed my system. I recently upgraded my board to an MSI H87 with UEFI and I would like to take advantage of the Windows 8 feature. If I enable the Windows 8 boot option it will fall back to command mode and I have to enable legacy boot just to boot into Windows.

Do I need to re-install Windows 8.1 to take advantage of UEFI or is there something I can do?

After doing a bit of research I found out that it is possible but to convert a legacy (BIOS) installation by converting the filesystem to use GPT however I did not want to go through all the trouble. Eventually went ahead and just did a reformat > fresh install over UEFI.
