Please tell me if this is normal. I do not think it is, but my modem has a multi-cast address in the routing table.

The address is 239.255.255.

I have a screenshot to show the route (my modem, not my pc), and my research shows that the address is allocated to a person at Univ of Oregon. I have absolutely no connection with that institution or that person.

When I do a traceroute of my internet connection, I get routes all over the US.

My modem, pcs, android, etc were hacked in 2011 (or 2012). I don't know if this is still part of the problem.

First you can not run multicast from your house to the internet without very specialized setup by the ISP. Most times it is done with a special vpn tunnel to the mbone network.

Then like 192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x 239.x.x.x is defined as a private block that is not to leave a location. So it is highly unlikely it is anything outside your house.

On top of all that multicast address are not really address in the true sense they are representations of group that sender and receivers wish to join. The group addresses themselves are not used to select the routing the normal routing to the sender of the data stream is actual what is used to select the path.
