Hi!

I'm starting my degree in modeling games and want to assemble a pc to work. I chose not to follow FirePro or Quadro line, I'll stick with the GeForce line to be able to play too! Then -> GTX 770;)

My question is: researching I found that the more cache the better processor to use programs like 3Ds Max and so on. So I have two CPUs in mind:

AMD FX 8320 Black Edition OctaCore - 16MB Cache

or

Intel Core i7 4770 - 8MB Cache

Which to choose?

Solution

No not always intel lol. Not always nvidia or AMD either for that matter. The 8320 performs very closely to the 4770 in 3DS Max (And most things) contrary to what other people will tell you:

However the i7 costs twice as much. I know which one I would choose for editing! Also, you should look into some of the quad core xeon's with hyperthreading. As long as you are not overclocking, a $250 Xeon will give you 99% of the performance of a $320 i7, while using a little less energy...

The 4770 beats the 83xx series hands down in pretty much everything. Of course, it's more expensive, so generally you would only choose it in a budget scenario where other parts can't be changed or even more performance would be lost... but in that case you'd probably just go to a 4670k instead.

I certainly did not choose the Xeon because I will have only 1 pc and I run good games ... So, considering that AMD is much cheaper, it's worth the i7?

i gotta come back and say......... you asked us for our opinions. if you want the amd processor buy it. nothing wrong with saving money.

I use an Intel server chip in my machine. runs cool/games fine. not much of an over clocker but wouldn't want to ruin it trying either. gaming isn't the only thing I use it for.
