As a newbee here I hope I've posted this query in the correct place. My old PB imedia Desktop has served me well for a good few years. With the "demise" of XP I recently updated it to Windows 7 and all was working well until last week. I switched it on and it began to boot but only got so far before stopping and begining to boot all over again. This continued almost in a continual loop before finally shutting down displaying to prevent permanent damage. During this booting process it would not respond to keyboard or mouse so I took it along to my local repair guy who tells me it's an "on board" problem and nothing can be done. I'm just asking is this really the end of my old friend?

Usually, this kind of problem is from a bad SATA controller, which is within the chipset on the motherboard. You might be able to find a replacement motherboard on ebay or something.
