This is more of a discussion, and sorry if I sound ignorant.

Why is it that so many manufacturers, like ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, and etc., make the front of the graphics card look so sexy and all, but nobody seems to care about the side of the card that actually gets displayed when installed in a case? I mean, only a handful of cards(reference GTX700s and ROG Matrix?) have the side LED.
Could someone please help me out and explain this to me...

Jokes apart, you could buy case lights or lighted fans for your PC. Also, they sell LED strips for cheap, which allow you to basically have a 12V portable tubelight.
It's a matter of preference.
The new AMD R9 295X2 has a LED in its fan, which is not directly visible through the window, but is nevertheless still there.
If manufacturers are installing a non-reference cooler, it's up to them to have/not to have a LED in the cooling casing.

Yes I get that. But isn't it a no brainer to put LED on the side? It just makes the card so much more appealing.

Just buy a Christmas tree and stand it on your PC.. .. or some fairy lights... if its important to you to have your PC light up like a Christmas tree,

Cheers

Not really, other things matter too.
In beefier coolers, the side space is usually taken by heatpipes. Where will you put a LED in there if you wanted to?
I'm not saying NVIDIA's cooler which has LED's is bad, that's also a good cooler which runs quiet.
