Hi, im new here and i was hoping i could get some input from you guys on what a better CPU is. I plan to order a gaming computer from ironside computers at some point this year but i cant figure out what cpu i should go with and what cooling method. If i plan to stick on a budget im going to go with either the
Intel Core I5 4670 quad core at 3.4 GHz OR the AMD FX 8350 Octa-core at 4.0 GHz and if i plan to go a bit higher up im either gonna get the
Intel core I7 4770(k) quad core at 3.4Ghz(3.5) OR the AMD FX 9590 Octa-core at 4.7 GHz
I do not plan to over clock any of these. i under stand if i go with a core I7 or an FX 9000 series that liquid cooling will be almost mandatory but if i choose to go with the I5 or the 8350 will i still need liquid cooling or could the I5-8350 run perfectly fine with a good CPU fan.
Also i want to know what is better performace wise. On CPU benchmark the FX 9590 is rated just ONE step above the I7 4770K and i like the idea of having 8 cores at 4.7 GHz but i also hear intel has hyper threading and that there 4 cores is comparable to an AMD 8 core in performance. Basically out of these 4 CPU choices i have gave you tell me what is the best one to go with and if liquid cooling is recommended or not.

Solution
I could see using a liquid cooler with the 9590. It's a normal 125W 8350 that's been OC'd even higher then that. The heat must be bad on those chips. Haswell has a really small die and has heat issues as well. I think you said you weren't OCing? If so I'd just grab a cheap Hyper 212Evo. You'll probably want more then that however if you plan to OC.
Hi,

It boils down to what games you want to play.

Normally a core i5 is the best for gaming but if plan on encoding, heavy video encoding and such, a core i7 would be better.

Now if you compare core i5 / fx-6300 core i7 / fx- 8350, AMD or Intel would have a little edge over some game and would be better in an other games but not by much.

Keep in mind hyper threading will not help in games and more and more games are taking advantage of muti core.

I say if you have the capital get a core i7 or fx-8350, but if you are tight on budget and it's only for gaming core i5/fx-6300 would be a better choice for you right now.

Why wouldn't hyperthreading help in games? It would be just as well utilised as physical cores would when up to 8 threads are in use.

OP, the 4670 or 4770k would be the best choice.

Most games still don't use a lot of cores. So hyperthreading doesn't help because 4 cores is enough to run games. This might/should change over time because the new consoles all have 8 core CPUs and games will be designed to take advantage of them. In a few years a HT 4C/8T CPU might be needed for the high/ultra levels for games. If/when that happens you'll be happy you'll have a HT CPU. AMD FX users need not worry. (Or perhaps they might, they might have the core count but they are rather weak when compared to Intel core or in some cases older AMD cores.)

I'd take the 4670K myself. If you are worried about 8Thread CPUs then the 4770 or 8320 is a good idea. I've got a 3570K in my computer now, and if I need an 8T CPU I'll just upgrade to the 3770k.

i plan to be using this thing for gaming on heaviest possible settings and i also ant to do video recording with fraps and all sorts of things as well as run skype at the same time for chating purposes as im a big multi tasker. currently as it looks the 9590 seems like the biggest bang for the buck. literally the only thing holding me back is air cooling or liquid cooling. i wouldent mind going with liquid cooling i just am a bit skeptical since i dont know if u ever have to change out the coolant or do any maintenance to it every so often. also my room gets very hot in the summer and i have no AC so i have to have a good way to keep my CPU nice and cool because i really want that 9590 but then again those I7's look pretty good aswell.

9590 isn't a good CPU to get. You'd be much better off getting the 8320 or 8350 and using that. It's expensive, and its the same CPU as the 83xx. I would personally just get the 4770 and call it a day. Handles 8 threads and is a good performer.

then its settled. I will go with the intel core I7 4770 3.4 now what i need is your recommendation. do i go with liquid cooling OR a nice CPU fan. i mean ironside computers told me they recommended liquid cooling for the 9590 but i dont know if this applies to the I7. I dont want to choose a bad cooling method and then over heat my machine.

Nah im not going to overclock even though ironside offers a free 10% over clock im not going to do it because theres no need for a small base frequency speed increase. Il consult Ironside a bit more regarding cooling of the i7 4770 and see what they have to say. I am also ordering a touch screen temp control system and a fan controller so i can ajust the speed of the CPU fan so i can always keep an eye on the temps and im also going to buy a mini fan to blow on the intake system on my computer case so its got a nice direct powerful airflow. Would that be enough to keep that beast cool and happy.
