What's more important in a gaming monitor: 2560x1440 resolution or refresh rate of 144Hz

As in the title, I am building a new computer and it will be gaming so I will be buying a new monitor. I bought an Asus gtx 780 oc so I can play 2560x1440, but now that I am shoppiing for a monitor, I can't find any that are 144hz refresh rate!
Any commonts/ suggestions?

1440p is just about looks maybe some games can use the added resolution to free up view space or add more information. usually better colors,
144hz looks more smooth and feel more responsive if you get 80 and above fps. inputlag is also reduced,
its almost like you can say it like this: 1440p for viewing games, 144hz for playing games.

nearly no game runs a 60fps unless its a bad console port or you put a fps cap on it.
but for the sake or the argument at 60 fps a 144hz monitor gives you just a tiny bit of advantage, because the inputlag of the high hz monitors are lower than the 60hz and you are sure that a frame is shown earlier because you got more hz ready to show them.
your games could be played perfectly good on a 60 hz monitor, dont think you need that extra on those games.

Some people don't notice the refresh rate, so I'm going with the higher resolution. With resolution, you can really feel the difference and you'll end up liking that monitor better.

Cheers!

a little late but

i'd like to know how you found the change to 144hz. Is it noticeable?

pilot: came across this thread whilst researching. i have the same dilemma. there's the 25" 1440p Acer G257 or AOC 27" @144hz.

did you notice a difference in the 144hz?

So far no, but I haven't gamed seriously yet (only From Dust, Abe and Watch Dogs). Batman, Splinter Cell and Thief to play in the next two months or so.

thanks for the reply. the more i'm researching the more i am doubting if 144hz is achievable from my 280x. i might have to go down the resolution route.

Mike - i assume you are referring to the dp or dl dvi cables to get the 144hz refresh rate (and audio?). I learned this type of connection will be required during the course of my research.

my intention is to connect via dp. in my case it will have to be a mini dp (card) to dp (monitor) lead.

much as i would like the 2560 resolution and 144hz i am now realizing i will need to upgrade my card to achieve that. so it's looking like a bulk standard 60hz 1080p for me, probably a 27".

However, I am reading on various forums that some 280x and 7970 users are claiming to running monitors at 2560 and/or 144hz.

So a full circle for anyone still attached. Still have the monitor. Still happy with it. Will be SLI'ing a second 780 once I finish Shadow of Tomb Raider (which doesn't officially support SLI), to then give my graphics longer life. It's funny, when I built my PC I knew I could upgrade my RAM (Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB 2x8GB DDR3 2400MHz PC3 19200 CMY16GX3M2A2400C11R) and OC my CPU (i7-4770K) one day, but still haven't seen the PC struggle yet! The PC I built in 2013/14 is still strong, can't say the same for Windows 7: LOL

Oh and didn't notice a difference of 144Hz, so I still don't know about that.

Still happy with the Monitor! My significant other who uses multiple screens at work wanted a second in her home office too, but instead I suggested the Samsung 43" (43J89) curved one and she loves it (120Hz so maybe I can use it too!) lol
