Have a PC with Windows 7 Home Premium along with all other programs on 500GB HDD. I would like to add a new SSD and install Windows 7 Pro on it and use it as boot drive, leaving all other programs and files on the HDD. Will this work and do I need to uninstall Win 7 Home Premium from HDD? Thanks for putting up with a novice.

After installing the OS on the new SSD (recommended course of action),your applications will need to be reinstalled.
The new OS will not know anything about them.

You can put them on whichever drive you want.

Yes, you can, but you're going to have to reinstall all your programs, if I understand your post correctly.

After you're done installing to the SSD, all you need to do is format the HDD and then you'll have your storage drive.

The programs installed on your current operating system won't work when you reinstall Windows.
You can install Windows on the SSD and then install other programs on the HDD.
Best to backup your data and format the HDD before you reinstall your programs.
