Hey guys, what's a good pc build that can run Skyrim perfectly on ultra setting and with multiple mods for $1,200 or under? (Including monitor, mouse, OS, and keyboard) I'm building an entire pc from scratch and I need everything that a good gaming pc would need. Thanks :)

This should be able to play just about any game at ultra settings. (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3IRx4). I left some money for the case simply because it does not really matter which case you get, it is all personal preference.

You should get an i5 (I recommend a 3570K or 4670K) for optimal performance if all you want to go is game on your machine. For RAM, I'd recommend 6-8 gigs (for just gaming) cause anything else is just overkill. Make sure you look at speeds when buying RAM. Try to get RAM that runs at 1600 MHz or higher. GPU is probably the hardest decision you are going to have to make, as there are many options, and some aren't very cost effective. I'd go for a 4 GB GTX 760 or 4 GB GTX 770 depending if you are going to be playing other games on your PC. Here is a full list of what I would put in the PC: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3IS0I

Sorry for it being over budget, but you should be able to swap a few parts out for cheaper ones (or even use some from your current PC) to get a nice, $1,200 build. You should maintain 60+ FPS in modded Skyrim with this build.

YOu don't need anything extravagant for skyrim. I can run skyrim with few mods at 1080p low setting on my original surface pro. Dual core i5, 2.3ghz with boost, 4gb ram, and integrated sandy bridge graphics.

I get skyrim loaded mods, 1080p ultra settings on my laptop. 4700 and 870m. Get 1080p, high settings full mods on laptop with 4700 and 860m.

This would be better for Skyrim with extreme mods. Skyrim's VRAM and RAM handling is borked (bad engine + DX9), so more than 2GB of VRAM can actually help in some situations with extreme mods, meanwhile it's 32-bit so more than 8GB of RAM will never help in Skyrim. Skyrim doesn't support PhysX or DX11, so that will make AMD a better choice here relative to the cost. If you were playing, for example, Metro Last Light, Nvidia is worlds ahead for the PhysX support and higher DX11 performance.

And no, you don't need a sound card anymore as long as you have a decent motherboard.
