My friend sent me his old custom built computer and I just set it up and did a fresh install of Windows 7 from a disc I made off my laptop. My computer is set up very far from the router so I'm using a wireless card that worked fine on my old computer. I installed the driver for the card from the manufacturer's website (downloaded it on my laptop). I was able to access the internet long enough to download Chrome and go to the AMD website to download the driver for my graphics card and then the internet conked out.

The icon indicates that there is a connection, the Network and Sharing center says I'm connected to the internet and troubleshooting turns up no problems. However, neither Chrome nor IE will load any webpages. I feel like I've tried everything, even the friend who built the computer is out of ideas. What do I do?

try parking it next to the router and see if that works.

try connecting it via ethernet cable if the wireless card does not work at close range.

if the ethernet works but the wireless card doesn't, ensure that all the drivers for your wireless card are installed properly.
