Windows Vista SP1 crashes on the green progress bar

I installed Vista SP1 and I get a BSOD at the green progress bar. I tried safe mode and it stops and crashes at crcdisk.sys and restarts itself. When I try to install Vista it asks for drivers (SATA drivers) and I put them on my flash drive and load them through the installer which works. However, when it restarts and says "Completing Installation" and I've waited about 30 minutes for this to finish and it looks like it hangs. I've even loaded the drivers on another computer (my brothers computer) and install Vista that way but the same thing happens crcdisk.sys/BSOD at the progress bar on the problematic computer known as the Acer Aspire M5640, but my brothers computer boots just fine. My best assumption is the way SATA is handled by the BIOS on this computer. I've installed this on other SATA based computers with no problems, but I will say this, I moved this hard drive to a Compaq Presario and the same crashes happen same place and the same blue screen. This is baffling me because both use different BIOS versions one is American Megatrends and the other is Phoenix. I just want the Acer to run this as that's the main computer.

If anyone has any suggestions on what more I could try because I think I'm either doing something wrong or missing a very important step. If I do not figure this out I will retire from computer repairs. :/

Have you tried installing to a another harddrive? Did you do the install on that Compaq or just moved the harddrive? Maybe check that hdd is working correctly on another computer, run chkdsk and check S.M.A.R.T to see if there is any warnings. You can use SeaTools http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/ to check if the hd is ok.

I swapped between 2 different hard drives in both computers and both hard drives won't work on either computer when Vista is installed. The problem with installing from the Compaq kept giving blue screens and I find that it is on it's way out due to blown capacitors and crashes at POST but that's another issue. I checked SMART within Ubuntu and it says the disk has a bad sector but nothing out of the ordinary it installs fine on my brothers computer. Its's a very strange problem for me.
