Hello! First time poster here. I've loved this site since I discovered it while building my first PC.

Anyway, I have an Iceq 7870. [Excellent card. Overclocked to 1225 core, 1425 memory @ 1325mV. That's the absolute furthest my card would go, highly recommend it.] I am looking to crossfire it, knowing that there can be complications. I would like to do this versus upgrade because I have used them in the past for "hashing". In which more cards tends to be better as opposed to most game applications. I know that people have been able to crossfire the 7870 with the r9 270x successfully. However that was with 2Gb of ram on each card. For only $20 more I could purchase one with 4Gb of ram on it, which is hard to pass up if it will be helpful in any way. So my question is:

1. Will using a card with 2Gb, and 4Gb of ram invalidate a possible crossfire (though they are otherwise compatible)?
2. And, if it wouldn't, will I see any benefit from the extra two gigs of ram on one card? In hashing or gameplay?

Actual experience is valued however speculation is also welcome. I couldn't find anything pertaining to my question online so hopefully someone knows!

Thanks y'all!!
