problem with a 7870

I have an xfx 7870 black/ghz edition and when I use it in my PC it works ok but on my friends pc I get nothing but a blackscreen.

The computers are very similar

My computer
-Intel i5 3570k
-windows 7 64 bit
-16gb ram

Friends pc
-Intel i5 3570k
-Windows 8 64 bit
-8gb ram

Tried using different drivers but had no luck. If can help me its much appreciated if not I guess I'll RMA it

Did you check these:
When plugging it into your friends rig, did you plug the GPU power into it?
Did you first start the rig in safe mode and let the system decide and accept the new GPU in it?
Did you change the primary graphics adapter from the IGP to the PCIe in the BIOS?
Which port is the monitor plugged into? Have you tried them both when the rig is on?

If it works fine in one rig and doesn't in another, your RMA ain't going to work they'll just send it back as is if it works fine in their rigs...

I tried all of those besides safe mode and changing the IGP to PCIe, but I do not have to change it when i put an asus 770 in it, and it works fine with it.
