Hi All,

I recently purchased a motherboard bundle from overclockers, it was an MSI Z87-G45 gaming motherboard with the processor stated in the title. It was overclocked by them to 4.3GHZ but was unstable and kept crashing. I have done some tweaks and have managed to get a stable clock at 1.29 core voltage. Under load in Prime95 i never get temps above 60 celsius! (Using an Alpenfohn K2 mount doom cooler, not watercooling)

From reading the forums it would appear that 1.29v is rather higher for that level of overclock. I've seen most people posting results of about 1.21-1.25v. And i've also noticed that at 60 celsius @ 1.29v my temps are rather lower, considering im not using a watercooler.

Am i going wrong somewhere, or do i have a bad chip? and is it safe to be playing crysis 3? (usually when temps of around 56 celsius when gaming)

Any advice i would be grateful of!

Thanks,
Scott

Why not just back off the voltage a bit and drop it to 4.0Ghz? At that level it'll blow away any game anyway; your framerate, if not satisfactory, would be entirely GPU bound.

Every single Ghz of OC decreases the chip's lifespan, whether it's "stable" or not. At a very high overclock the i5-4670k will fry a couple years before it goes out of date, which is certainly not a desirable end.

Ok so turning down the clock to 4Ghz would be a better approach you think? and it wont affect my gaming performance?
Currently running on a GTX 780 OC edition, getting around 80 FPS average on crysis 3 @1080p ultra settings. Would you say it be better to overclock the GPU for better performance gains rather than the CPU?
