I have a rosewill REDBONE case. The old one that came with two 120mm fans - one in back, one in front. I want to put in two more fans, one on the side and one on the bottom. my cpu fan is a cm hyper 212 plus with the fan blowing directly at the rear exhaust fan. I was thinking of putting the two new fans in both for intake, and removing the rear fan completely so it is more of an exhaust port rather than a fan. I feel that the fan would just restrict airflow out of the case because of the tremendous intake from the three fans. would this be an effective cooling solution? Does anyone have any better fan arrangement reccomendations? Would the positive pressure through the exhaust port be sufficient to prevent excessive dust getting inside?

Hi jleegreene
positive air pressure is best more intake than exhaust , this will help reduce dust in your case

i would leave the rear fan , this will help draw air away from your cpu , the rest sounds fine
edit: the 212 plus will exhaust air toward the rear of the case , the rear fan will help draw away that warm air , not restrict it

What if I moved the rear fan so it is attached to the heat sink. Would this be better? I just am worried that there will be excessive air flow out the side of the case because there are holes there for a second side fan. I would place another intake there but I can't because the cpu fan is about .5 mm. From the wall so it won't fit. do you think I should block these holes with something so the air is forced to pass over the gpu/cpu in order to reach the rear exhaust?

the rear fan will not be an issue for you , if you are really worried about dust getting in through the side panel holes of the 120mm you can get stick on mesh filters that you can stick on the side of the case covering these holes such as this ,

the back sqaure is has a peel off film and is adhesive and will stick to your case it has a magnet on the other side so it sticks to the front mesh piece so it can be removed easily for cleaning
perhaps something like this
