I am building a computer and I have an LG optical dvd drive/burner and the Creative Sound Blaster Z PCIE card. I have installed both...not booted the PC yet as no OS installed or monitor yet, but everything is getting power so far. This is a stupid question, but in the past I always ran a cable from my old sound cards to the DVD drive. The cable I have now came out of my old PC, doesn't match the config of the only pin config on the SB card. How does sound get from the DVD to the Sound blaster card? Is that cable just for onboard sound input from the DVD? It was plugged into the mobo on my old PC. This new mobo - Asus Z87-A has a front panel audio connector (10-1 pin AAFP) and a digital audio connector (4-1 pin SPDIF OUT). The case manual led me to connect the AAFP jack to the cable attached to the case, Sitting here thinking...to what and for what reason? On the attached linked

photo you can see some kind of connector pin config on the right side. What is that for? It's an OEM and did not come with specs.

Running a cable to dvd rom from sound card days are long gone you dont need it you should be able to just pop a cd in and itl play only thing you can connect to the sound card is hd audio cable if your case has front ports to plug in headphones and mic. Oh and also your m,otherboard has onboard sound so to use the sound card u bought you have to plug in speakers to the sound card ports not motherboards.

Boink!!! Well esco, that shows my age. The last PC I built was in 2006. Can you answer a tech question for me? How is the sound from the DVD routed through the Soundblaster card?
