Dear friends,

I have one hell of a problem and it's freaking me out

Last week my computer crashed as a result of a bug of a Pro Tools plug-in (Audio editing program). My screen froze and it wouldn't let me do anything so I had to do a hard reset.
When my computer was restarted I saw that my USB drivers were reinstalling and suddenly I got a message saying that my PC found a 'Unknown Device' which surprisingly was my External HDD (which wasn't in any way connected to my Pro Tools program).

There's a lot of important data on my External HDD. After a lot of uninstalling drivers and googling the problem I found at that the same problem occurs when I put my HDD in other computers (so it's not my PC).

Thing is: when I put in the HDD it does not immediately get recognized, it takes like 3-7 minutes before it make the "usb inserted sound" and starts looking for drivers and fails. When I look in my Device Management it says "Unknown Device" with a sign. The Hardware-id is USB\UNKNOWN
and it gives me error code 45.

Microsoft Fixit doesn't help me either, it finds the problem but doesn't solve it.

PLEASE HELP ME!

Best regards,
proquality

according to microsoft (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff541422(v=vs.85) ).aspx the device is not connected....probably the crash affected your external drive... there are thing to try like file recover software (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html)....but the easiest way is...remove the hard drive from the enclosure and directly connect it to your motherboards sata. then try fixing it there.

Seems like the error code is changing; now it is error code 43. I wish there is a way to access my files and get them to a back-up. I read somewhere that deleting your INFCACHE could help in someway... any tips on that part?
Or other suggestions ofcourse.

I have tried this on another computer and it gave the same exact problem. I feel like I'm screwed.
