I have been having issues with my wifi dropping when I go upstairs in my home. I was told I need to upgrade the router, but am at a loss on what to look for as far as N, AC, or what is considered the "best bang for your buck." I mostly use internet upstairs on my smart tv or downstairs on my laptop. The biggest issue comes when trying to stream movies upstairs. As I said, I am completely a a loss when it comes to the jargon, but really need this fixed. Thanks!

Solution
Before shelling out for a new router, try changing the wireless channel on your existing one.
You can do that by opening your router's configuration manager utility in any web-browser and going to the wireless section.
Best channels are 6 or 11 (or even 12 if it's available (depends on region you live in).

Most routers leave the factory with wireless channel set to "Automatic" so it continuously scans for the best channel at any given time, but that's not always satisfactory. Worth trying a fixed channel before buying new. You may have to experiment with different channels to get the strongest & most stable signal.
