Hello everyone,
I just got myself a new computer with a GTX 770 and when playing demanding games such as Crysis 2 or Bioshock infinite, the GPU reaches 82°C which seems a bit too much.
I noticed that my case only has one front fan and that's it. So I was wondering:
If I get 2 additional fans (I'm thinking Noctua NF-P12 PWM), one side one rear, would it make much of a difference ? I don't want to spend the money if It's just going to be 1° lower.
Thanks !

Thanks ! I didn't think of that. Seems like a good idea ! As far as 140mm fans go, my case only supports 120mm fans unforunately.
Now all I need to do is look through the basement to find that damn desk fan :p

Dont really need a fan at all. You will notice lower temps with the side off since you only have 1 case fan, though your PSU should have an exhaust fan aswell.

A rear exhaust fan will do wonders if your front is intake. If it isnt, its an easy fix..just turn the fan around! :D

Alternatively, you could set up a custom fan profile that elevates your fans RPM before it gets to 80c.

My Sapphire 260x would hit ~80c before the fan speed increased to ~55%,keeping the temp from raising further. I made the fan curve more aggressive and now the fan speed increases to 55% before it hits 75c and doesnt get hotter.

If you really want it cool and quiet, you can use a AIO liquid cooler like the corsair H55, the Kraken G10 bracket and some little vrm and vRam heatsinks, thats what I have done on my 680. Totally quiet and about 30'c cooler than the reference cooler.

I actually tried creating a custom fan profile using MSI afterburner and I got a whole lot of noise (like a LOT) for 1 to 2° celcius less. The trade-off doesn't really seem worth it. Also it's a reference card with what looks to be a very crappy fan

82c is the factory preset Temp Target, easily adjusted through Afterburner or PrecisionX. All Kepler cards adjust other variables; turbo boost clocks, fan speeds, and voltage; in order to maintain that temperature target.

As you discovered, attempting to work against the target temp is only going to result in more noise or less performance. The card is running at its designed temp and there is nothing wrong with your system.
