The 280X will use about 200 watts of power during gaming but gets to 250w at full load. Add another 100w for the CPU, you have 350w without anything else plugged in as what you want to go by (or 300 if you feel safe about the card not being maxed out). Giving yourself a %25 headroom for PSU efficiency under load and temperatures and a bit for safety, you are OK to run the card but a bit close to where you may want to upgrade for stability and longevity from the power supply.

i calculated the total wattage needed here. and it says 469w. generally how much headroom is sufficient?

When I play BF4 at ultra with my 280x,My total system power consumption including monitor and speaker is 470W maxx..So 520W psu is OK i guess if it provides pure 520 W and not below this..

I would not run a system that uses 470w on a 520w power supply. If the PSU is marked as a 520w, they are often rated at a certain temperature and operating conditions. Very often, it will have a max rating bellow that. Plus keeping a PSU running at near it's maximum output will increase the chance of it failing.

For a 470w system, you'd want a 550w+ power supply to be safe.
