I currently have

PSU - GIGABYTE ODIN 470
RAM - 2*2GB
CPU - core 2 duo e7500 2.93ghz
GPU - Nvidia Geforce 9800gt 1gb
MOBO - G41MT-ES2L
HDD - 1TB Seagate

I am wanting to upgrade to this

GPU - Asus HD7870 or R9 270x
MOBO - Asus M5A97
CPU - AMD fx6300
PSU - ?
RAM - ?
HDD - ?

Is there anything you would suggest i should keep from the old pc or should i just start a new build from scratch?

My current pc is approx. 4 years old if that would be of any use.

O, and what i have written down under new build is basically 2/3 of my budget.

Thanks

Keep the 1 TB HDD, but use an SSD as the drive for the OS. I would say to maybe ditch the 470W PSU, and go for a Seasonic or XFX PSU.

I agree keep 1.) your hard drive. 1a.) if your budget allows get a 120 GB Samsung 840 EVO they are normally at a very good budget price and normally something obtainable.
2.) Get a new CPU/MOBO/RAM DDR3 1600 8GB 2 Dimms of 4GB preferred however if you find a good deal on a single 8 that could work to.
3.)PSU replace as well OEM PSU's are something trust much. Gigabyte isn't renown for there PSU's something more legit as hello man suggested a solid seasonic power supply would fit the bill. XFX uses Seasonic OEM and so does other PSU manufactures if you do the research to figure out if one model does or doesn't.

Corsair has a few PSUs that are Seasonic OEMs. On that RAM, make sure the CAS latency is 9 or lower.

Corsair does in fact have power supplies that are Seasonic OEM however Corsair in some cases can be a bit more expensive then the other brands.
