Hello all,

Hoping someone can help me here.

I recently did a complete reinstall after having problems running games on my pc (all of my games would run for 1-2 mins then just immediately boot me out). I ran all my virus software but it sound nothing. Long story short, I reinstalled everything.

Since reinstalling I have installed all of my mobo and GPU drivers, no unnescessary programs and just a few games so far ( AC4, Civ5, Lego Marvel). That said, I have had to drop the settings on every game SIGNIFICANTLY to even get them to run properly. AC4 used to run without any problems whatsoever on maxed settings (by no volumetric smoke or god rays) but not I get significant slowdown on minimal settings.

When reinstalling everything I did clean out the dust from my computer including the heat sink on the cpu. When putting it back on I was only able to clip 3 of the 4 brackets in, no matter how I tried I was unable to get the 4th in and was concerned about breaking something. As such, there could be a slight gap between them? Also, I didn't replace any of the contact stuff that helps with heat transferrnce.

My specs:

Mobo: P8 Z77-V LK
CPU: Intel i5-3570 @ 3.4 GHz
Ram: 16 GB
GPU: Asus HD 6850

Also, I grabbed a gadget that determines my CPU useage and running simple pages throws it up to about 30% on all cores, and playing AC4 threw up all up to 95%+

Any help would be VERY much appreciated.

Thanks

Looks to me like you are having heat issues instal a software like coretemp or hw monitor to look at the temps under load and when doing nothing then i can help you further.

Hello... you need to get all your Heatsink pins/clips connected... get a close eye on what is interfering with this problem and complete that task... is it a push pin type heatsink? it is difficult and sometimes needs acess to the rear of the MB for visual assistance for proper penatration through the holes in the MB, before locking the pins down into it..

The problem can be processor, ram , graphic card or even your motherboard.
But most probably your culprit is processor.
Also, you should try to clip in all 4 brackets of the heat sink, as this may lead to processor overheating due to inefficient transfer of heat. Don't forget to reapply thermal paste on the heatsink before re-installing it.
