Hey,

I've recently bought an MSI GT70-2PC Dominator Pro and I'm looking to pop in another SSD, the intention being that I end up with the following storage config:
-128GB SSD (OS & normal apps - already in system)
-240GB SSD (Games - to be purchased)
-1TB traditional drive (Bulk data - Already in the system)

I'm quite happy I'm up to *doing* the upgrade (I've done it to laptops before), but I just want to check that's possible. I'm not interested in RAIDing the disks, but if it's not possible to achieve the above config I could always swap out the existing 128GB disk and have a pair of 240's, but for cost reasons I'd rather not.

Any pitfalls/obstacles I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance,

Jamie

It all depends on what that "Super RAID" does. But generally, different size drives in a RAID is a bad idea. And different technologies (HDD + SSD) compunds that bad idea.

Find the manual and see what it says about different drives.

Sorry, should have been more specific, it's a laptop. The reason I'm asking and a little wary is that MSI have done something funky where you can fit 3 drives and RAID them all together, but I'm not sure if the Super RAID kit restricts my ability to just shove an extra (unmatched) drive in the slot. The amount of info provided in the documentation I can find is sadly lacking!

Thanks anyway,

Jamie

Do you have desktop?

This is how I would (and do) configure your stuffs:

Big terrabyte hard drive for bulk stuff.
FAST 256gb SSD for games/OS/apps

USB flash drive and desktop/external storage for everything else.

Even if you could do 3 drives and stuff. managing all of them and the data is no fun.

A MSI rep told me that it does not void your warranty to simply open and replace things. (they sent me a new cd-rom that I installed) He said if you go in there and obviously mess something up like jam the drive or RAM in upside down.

This was a conversation that I had with MSI support on the phone btw

There is an optical bay hard drive caddy, but I am still looking for one that matches my laptop, which is the same model. Also if you haven't figured it out yet, Raid configuration is only used with the same size and make hard drives and SSD's in particular. If you have found a caddy that fits your laptop, could you post a link to where you found it please?

Thank you
