I have been attempting to put a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 into this Acer Aspire M3985 (the computer is about a year and a half old)-- I have upgraded the PSU to a 650w with no issues (Computer works when card isn't in/New PSU being used) however when the card is put in I run into problems.

If I put the card in the system and plug my monitor into the card, the computer gets to the Acer BIOS screen at a nice 1920x1080 resolution... and that's about it. After that I get roughly 4 beeps at 20 second intervals, and the screen then goes black with a flashing underscore and no more beeps. If i attempt to access the BIOS the screen just goes black. No beeps.

If I have the card in the system and attempt to plug my monitor into the ONBOARD GRAPHICS... I get a BIOS error code. 1 long beep and 2 short ones. From what I know this is a video card error. The same applies when nothing is plugged into either the card or the onboard.

When the card is removed, the problems stop.

What I am led to believe here is the motherboard's BIOS is at fault. I would update and solve these problems.. but I already did that. No change. The latest BIOS for this computer was released in mid 2013.

I have not yet contacted Acer.

However, I would like to ask if anyone else has suggestions for this problem.

Thanks.

What PSU did you put in there? I am running an i7, but it has integrated graphics just like the i3 in there. I have a GTX680 in here and that is al that is showing under Display Adapters in the Device Manager. When you plugged into the port on the motherboard with the card left in the slot, then it was the same if you tried with the cable plugged into nothing and you got the proper beep code ( 1 long and 2 short ). The 4 beeps is a timing thing and you need to check the card and make sure it is slotted properly and the PCIe cables from the PSU are properly plugged in.

Power Supply: "FSP Group Raider S 650 650W ATX 12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Active PFC Power Supply with Intel Haswell Ready"

I will check if I am doing anything wrong or if I slotted it incorrectly.

Hi! I'll try to give you an answer (i'm french).

I had the same problem. I've got an Acer Aspire 3985.
I have upgraded the PSU with a Corsair CX600 Bronze.
I wanted to upgrade the CGU from GT640 to a Zotac GTX 770 Amp Edition

To resume, after hours of research, i found a solution:
-i have upgraded BIOS from P01-A1 (12/03/2012) to P01-A2. The access to BIOS option change. I had to put on Suppr instead of ESC (i spent hours to note that...). Maybe it doesn't change anything.
Then, in BIOS option:
-i switch PCI E alim to "Enable". Maybe it doesn't change anything too
-Most important, i switch Quiet Boot to "Disable

The computer spend more time to boot, but it work!!! Install your graphic card, power, wait a few and enjoy!

I have a m3985 and an updated BIOS and tried all of the previous poster's suggestions. I am returning my 760, EVGA is sending a new one not in the 700 series. Apparently there is a compatibility issue with the 700 series. That is what I have read anyway.

Did you also uninstall the driver of the previous CGU?

I have a m3985 too and it work with my GTX770...
I understand now that Acer don't want us to change their computer like that. But having I7 with GT640 is such an aberration...
