why do new and lg monitors have different power connectors???

so i got a new monitor and i like it it was a sale for 139.99 LG 24M45H-B monitor at tiger direct at the time but during the setup i realised that the power connector is different form the old one and a lot shorter. so why did they do that because currently at tiger direct:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item...

and it has almost the same features but has a normal power cord. why is that?? why is it not the standard.???

They go for best price/performance even with power cables.

^ so then why is it that lg changed the "universal" computer power connector?

To make you buy a new proprietary cable.
You think Apple changed their 30pin connector to Lightning because the 30pin was lacking in any real way?

A less pessimistic answer would be is the monitor you received has an external power brick. Your standard ATX plug goes into the brick, and a proprietary cable from the brick to monitor. At least that's how my (slim) LG monitor works.

There are actually several monitors, and many old ones, that use external power bricks. There are some advantages. You don't need the power circuit in the case so you can make it smaller. Less interference from the power electronics. Several of the high end monitors that I have worked with in hospitals and such have external power.
