Today I built a new rig (not first)
i7 4930k
Rampage 4 Black
128 GB Samsung SSD 840 Pro (Boot Drive)
2 x 256 GB Samsung SSD 840 Pro
Numerous Problems:
1. The bios will not detect 4 of the 6gb sata ports. In the bios it only lists the 4 3GB/s and only 2/6 of the 6GB/s ones.
2. I tried just putting the 2 256Gb drives in the 2 working 6GB/s sata ports, and moved my 128GB boot drive to the 3 GB/s sata port, the rig still boots fine, and the BIOS detects the 2 x 256 SSDs however they don't appear as drives once into windows.

MY GOAL is to RAID 0 the 2x 256 drives in 6GB/s sata ports and also have the 128GB boot drive in a 6 GB/s port (considering the board is supposed to have 6 functional).

ANY ADVICE GREATLY APPREACIATED.

Hi I actually going thru the same problem. Since I just got the board yesterday so don't know if I am correct or not. If you have the manual, please flip to 1-38 to 1-40.

So basically the X79 chipset supports 6gb/s and 4 3gb/s. The other four is offered by ASmedia and I think the ASmedia card only support drives that hold DATA ONLY.

Don't know if that helps. Maybe you can Raid the 256G as OS drive, move the 128 SSD to the ASmedia card and use that specifically for game or what ever are the most important program you use. Finally get a HDD for Mass storage.

Hope this helps.

I can't help you with much I'm afraid, but I can offer one piece of advice/question. Did you install the drivers for the other SATA ports? The X79 chipset only has native support for 2 SATA 6gbit/s and 4 SATA 3gbit/s; the rest of the SATA ports on the board are powered by a 3rd party add in controller (in this case ASMedia ASM1061). The fact you only have 2 of the 6gbit/s ports working has me wondering if the driver is installed (or if it is, is it installed correctly).

Hope that helps in some small way.

I installed the ASMedia ASM1061 driver off the motherboard. Then the latest one off asus' website. How would I even go about managing ssds on this third party chipset? Would it be in the bios? or in ASMedia Software? The bios just allows me the enable and disable the ASMedia controller and the "Hot Plug". Idk what the hot plug is. I didn't know it would be so complicated:( very sad I cant use 4 of the Sata3 ports this mobo supposedly comes with.
